Location
The Grand Chateau, nestled at the foot of Mount Ruapehu, was completed in 1929 and still retains many of its original features. It is one of New Zealand's few hotels located in a World Heritage Park. This hotel is within easy reach of the country's two largest cities, Auckland and Wellington.

Fitness room and Sauna: Stay healthy on holiday ? we have a small Fitness Room which features a cross trainer, bike and rowing machine. Put your favourite video in the TV and get sweating! After your workout you may like to relax a while in our sauna. Use of the Fitness Room and Sauna and small heated plunge pool are free for all Chateau Tongariro guests to enjoy.
Cinema: The in-house cinema seats 60 people and shows three popular recent-release movies every day - at 6.00pm, 8.00pm and at 10.00pm. The daily 6 o'clock showing is always a family movie that the kids are bound to love. The Chateau Cinema is free for all guests to enjoy.
Petanque/Boules: Boules are available also at the Ruapehu hotel's reception for a relaxing game of Petanque. The playing pitch is located in the gardens at Fergusson's Caf?, the beautifully-restored historic building, just 50 metres from the main hotel.
Board games: The luxury Ruapehu hotel has an excellent range of board games available at reception to keep the kids ? or the big kids ? entertained.
Golf: The Bayview Chateau Tongariro golf course is located right in front of the main hotel building and is an easy-walking 9-hole course, with three towering active volcanoes, a World Heritage Park and the grand Chateau Tongariro as your backdrop! Additional charges apply.

Children & Extra Guests
Child up to 12 years old sharing a room with an adult and not requiring a rollaway bed, will be accommodated free of charge. In any circumstances where a rollaway bed or cot is required the extra person charge of $NZ 32.00 incl. gst (until 31 August 2011) $NZ 35.00 incl. gst (01 September 2011 onwards) will apply. All rates quoted based on 1-2 persons sharing, extra person rate applies.

The only New Zealand hotel located in a World Heritage Park, The Grand Chateau is situated 6kms up State Highway 48 and is within easy reach of New Zealand's two largest cities, Auckland and Wellington. The flight time from Auckland International Airport to Taupo is approximately one hour.

Cancellation Policy
Cancellation policy: In an instance where a booking has been guaranteed and the guest fails to arrive, one night's accommodation will be charged if the reservation has not been cancelled. Late cancellations within 48 hours of the guest's arrival date, or non-arrival of the guest, will incur one night's accommodation per room.
