New Zealand InterIsland & Local Ferry Services

A ferry is a popular way of travelling between New Zealand's North and South Islands. The 83-kilometre journey between Wellington and Picton is regarded as one of the world's great scenic cruises.

Two ferry operators provide daily passenger and vehicle sailing services. The Interislander journey lasts three hours, while Strait Shipping's Bluebridge takes three hours and twenty minutes.

The Interislander links with Tranz Scenic train services in Wellington and Picton, and major coach lines, making it easier for you to book your travel.

Other scheduled ferry services link the mainland to Stewart Island, as well as various islands in the Marlborough Sounds and Auckland’s Hauraki Gulf.
