Its proud history dates back to 1883 when the original Grand Hotel, which stood on the same site, was widely regarded as one of the southern hemisphere's finest guesthouses. The Scenic Hotel Southern Cross provides guests with an exceptional level of comfort, style and service. Please be advised starting on the 20th July 2009, demolition of the two buildings behind the Scenic Hotel Southern Cross is due to commence. Timing of the demolition work will be between 8.30am - 6.00pm daily (Mon-Fri). Completion of the work is expected to finish mid September 09. The Scenic Hotel Southern Cross will be operating as normal while the demolition work is being carried out behind the Hotel. Hotel guests will be accommodated in wings that are further away from the site. For any guests arriving at the Hotel in their own vehicle, please park in the front of the Hotel to have the Porters valet park the car during this period.

The Scenic Hotel Southern Cross is Dunedin's leading conferencing and events facility. The on-site events planner will help tailor resources to your individual needs. You can select from seven beautifully presented conference venues, suitable for small meetings to major events. The larger rooms, including the recently opened State Room with its own street access, are ideal for large seminars, product launches, dinner or cocktail functions, and weddings.
Children & Extra Guests
*A child is 12 years or younger. *A maximum of 2 children sharing an existing bedding configuration in a room with 2 adults stay free. *'Extra Person' charge applies for additional children sharing with 2 adults and requiring additional beds of $NZ 43 GST inclusive per person *Cots are complimentary. *A child receives 50% of meals when dining with parents. *No charge for meals for children under 4 years and dining with parents.

Cancellation Policy
A guaranteed reservation that is neither cancelled within 24 hours of arrival date, or taken up by the client by 6pm on date of arrival, will incur one night accommodation being charged. Any further nights included in the reservation will be automatically cancelled unless otherwise advised.
